Man United Luke Shaw transfer replacements after injury setback with three-month no-brainer

Luke Shaw's injury hell continues for Manchester United. It is already over seven months since his last Premier League appearance, and he is now closing in on an entire year since he last played back-to-back full matches for the club.

Unfortunately for Shaw, who has been out with injury for large periods in two of the last three seasons now, it continues a negative trend. Despite debuting for Southampton as a teenager in 2012, he is yet to play over 2,000 league minutes in consecutive years.

After signing Shaw to effectively replace Patrice Evra at Old Trafford, United's plans to find a backup a decade on have so far faltered. Tyrell Malacia has been unable to get to fitness himself after an exciting 2022/23 campaign, and it has been the role of Diogo Dalot to act as cover in the absence of others.

Given that Shaw being available is now the exception rather than the rule (and has been heading that way for some time), it is only understandable that the club are being linked with new players in the position. It is one reason why Under-18 starlet Harry Amass is attracting so much attention.

The natural left-back was taken on pre-season with Erik ten Hag over the summer and has been expected to make the transition into a fully-fledged first-team option. His chances have been extremely limited, though, with no place on the senior bench yet. Given nobody can be brought in until the winter window, he may well get more chances in the coming weeks.
