It may be tempting to throw money at a new striker's wages to tempt them. Victor Osimhen, for example, has been heavily linked, particularly since news broke on Thursday that United have missed out on Ipswich Town's Liam Delap.

There may now be some sense of panic at United to try and get a new striker in after such a disastrous season. Patience is wearing increasingly thin with the need to improve becoming desperate.

However, what could be more important is signing the players whose motivation is mainly based on reviving United. Money is an important factor in convincing players but there has to be more to it than that - something that may not have always been the case with some previous signings.
