Man United have four players seeking future clarity - Ruben Amorim has to get two big calls right
Manchester United's line up for their Premier League season opener remains anyone's guess as they continue to chase targets in the transfer market.
A striker remains the top priority as United seek to cure their failings in front of goal. The Reds have added Matheus Cunha to their ranks and if Bryan Mbeumo follows then those two will surely lock out the two attacking 10s in Ruben Amorim's set-up.
The pair are versatile to perform in other roles but look a natural fit to play off a frontman.
Should the duo arrive, there will be a knock-on effect elsewhere. Indeed United have a plethora of players for who some positional clarity is needed.
Bruno Fernandes will get into the XI but that looks increasingly likely to be in the central midfield position now. Is that where Mason Mount's future is? Or will he be a back-up further forward. That looks his natural habitat but he has the capabilities and the intelligence to play deeper.
Amad surely must be in the team but is that now be at right wing back? He was a brilliant performer last season and a role must be found for him.
Kobbie Mainoo made his England breakthrough in the middle of midfield, but can play as an attack minded role and even filled in up front last term. He is now one of several options in a crowded position.
The youngster might benefit from his ability to play multiple positions but you get the sense that for his career to kick on, a natural home is needed.
Amorim has spoken of having versatile players capable of playing across positions. There is plenty of merit to that argument, but certainly in the cases of young pair Mainoo and Amad, they must be given some clarity to thrive.
