Man United can hand Sander Berge perfect welcome gift after transfer decision confirmed

Manchester United would be able to offer Burnley midfielder Sander Berge an ideal number if he was to sign at Old Trafford.

The former Sheffield United man was relegated with the Clarets last season and has struggled somewhat to settle in the Premier League. When he joined the Blades in 2020, the signing was highlighted as a coup for the South Yorkshire club thanks to the masses of potential he possessed.

The 26-year-old has yet to reach those heights yet but that has not put United off potentially bringing him to the club. According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, the Reds have entered into initial talks with the Lancashire team for the midfielder.

It is believed United are exploring the conditions of the deal considering he has three years left on his contract at Turf Moor. Considering he was relegated last season, the hope for the Reds will be that Berge could be secured for a cut-price fee.

Should the deal be pushed over the line, United have a vacant number they could gift the Norwegian which he would no doubt want. Currently, the No.4 shirt at Old Trafford does not have an owner after Sofyan Amrabat's loan deal at the club came to an end.

While Berge has never worn the number before, it would be seen as quite the honour to bestow on him considering it has previously been worn by greats including; Nemanja Vidic, Steve Bruce and Nobby Stiles. At Burnley, Berge has worn the No.16 shirt which is currently held at United by Amad while at Sheffield United he wore the No.8 shirt which is owned by Bruno Fernandes.
