Manchester United can take advantage of Chelsea situation to solve transfer priority

Chelsea may be able to hand Manchester United the perfect solution to one of the biggest transfer conundrums.

United have already added four new players to their squad with Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui. There is also the possibility of another new signing with Manuel Ugarte potentially arriving from Paris Saint-Germain.

Those five players would see United strengthen centre-back, midfield and striker in one summer. There is another area of the squad, though, that has been in need of reinforcements at Old Trafford.

United have been heavily linked with signing a new left-back this summer but are not seemingly close to any new additions in that department. The Reds currently have Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia as their recognised options in that position, although both players struggled with injury during their respective time at United.

Malacia has not played for United since May 2023, while Shaw is currently sidelined with a calf injury he sustained during pre-season. As a result, United could be wise to look at the left-back market before the window closes, and this is where Chelsea enter the picture.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed earlier this week that Ben Chilwell, along with Raheem Sterling, will "struggle" for game time this season, and hinted at a move away from Stamford Bridge. United have not been linked with a move for Chilwell, but the recent comments from Maresca could indicate a provide an opportunity in the market.
