Man seriously hurt after stabbing near pub with cordon in place

A man has been left seriously hurt after being stabbed near a pub in Wythenshawe.

Police were called to the scene of the attack on Cornishway at around 4.30pm yesterday (Sunday). A cordon was put in place near The Beret pub as a man was rushed to hospital.

The victim - aged in his 40s - suffered serious stab wounds, police said. Thankfully his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

No arrests were made and investigations are now being carried out. Pictures taken at the scene last night showed a number of officers stationed at the cordon.

The pub confirmed the incident was 'nothing to do with them' and instead happened nearby. A post on The Red Beret pub's Facebook page last night said: "Hi All.

"We have had a few concerned customers worried something has happened in the pub but we are glad to say the issue happened across the road and nothing to do with us."

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Cornishway in Wythenshawe at around 4.30pm to reports a man had been assaulted.

"A man aged in his 40s was taken to hospital with stab wounds that are serious but not life-threatening. Officers from GMP's City of Manchester district are carrying out enquiries and reviewing CCTV, but no arrests have been made yet.

"Any witnesses should contact police quoting log 2139-12/11/23."
