Man rushed to hospital after car bursts into flames on street

A man was rushed to hospital after a car burst into flames on a street in Oldham.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the fire on Buckstones Road in Shaw at around 1.45pm yesterday (Tuesday). Pictures showed the car engulfed in huge flames with plumes of black smoke billowing from the fire.

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said paramedics took a man to the Royal Oldham Hospital from the scene. He suffered burn injuries, the spokesperson added.

The extent of his injuries are not known at this stage. Firefighters extinguished the blaze after one fire engine was scrambled to the scene.

A spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At approximately 1.45pm on Tuesday, 8 August, firefighters were called to a vehicle fire on Buckstones Road, in Oldham. One fire engine from Oldham quickly attended the scene.

"The fire involved a car on the roadway. A man was assessed by fire crews before being transferred to the care of colleagues from NWAS and conveyed to hospital.

"Firefighters used a hose reel, thermal imaging camera and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire. Fire crews were in attendance for approximately 45 minutes."
