Man rushed to hospital after being rescued from bottom of ravine

A man has been rescued from the bottom of a ravine along the River Roch in Heywood tonight (April 22).

Emergency services were called to the area just off Summit Street at around 8pm. Police, fire service, and ambulance personnel were all pictured at the scene assisting with the rescue.

A rope and a stretcher had to be used to rescue the man, according to the fire service, who remain in attendance. After being rescued the man was placed into the care of the ambulance service who took them to hospital.

The extent of any injuries are unknown.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At around 8pm on Saturday 22 April, fire crews were called by Greater Manchester Police to assist with the rescue of a man from the bottom of a ravine alongside the River Roch in Heywood.

"Three fire engines from Rochdale, Heywood and Bury stations, as well as the water incident unit from Heywood and the technical response unit from Ashton, quickly attended the scene.

"Firefighters used lighting, a rope system and stretcher to rescue the man, who was transferred to the care of North West Ambulance Service and taken to hospital. GMFRS crews remain in attendance."
