Man in his 20s charged in connection with 'dreadful and traumatic' deaths of three siblings

A man in his 20s has been charged in connection with the deaths of three siblings who tragically died at their home in the early hours of Sunday (September 4), the Garda has confirmed. Lisa Cash, 18, and her eight-year-old twin siblings Christy and Chelsea Cawley, died following the violent incident at their home in Rossfield Avenue, Tallaght, Dublin.

A man is now due to appear before Dublin’s Criminal Courts of Justice at 9pm in relation to the deaths of the siblings. A vigil was held on Monday, which saw a large crowd gather outside the house, releasing balloons and lighting candles in an emotional tribute to the trio.

The victims’ 14-year-old brother was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries after the incident, and their mother, a woman in her 40s, was released from hospital on Sunday and is being supported by her family. Police have said everyone involved is thought to know one another and therefore they are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident at this time.

A garda spokesman said: "The male (20s) arrested in relation the fatal incident in Rossfield, Tallaght on the 4th September 2022, has been charged. He is scheduled to appear before the CCJ at 9:00pm this evening, Monday, 5th September 2022."

Taoiseach Micheal Martin expressed his “deepest sympathies” to their family, and said that the “terrible tragedy” had “left the nation shocked and very saddened”.

Ireland’s Garda Commissioner, Drew Harris, described the deaths as “dreadful and traumatic”, adding that it was “one of the worst incidents that I’ve heard of or come across in my service”.
