Man City confirm 22 man squad for Sporting Lisbon tie as injury clarity emerges and youngsters travel

Manchester City will be without several senior stars for the Champions League tie at Sporting Lisbon.

As expected, defensive duo John Stones and Ruben Dias will not feature for the Blues and join long-term absentees Rodri and Oscar Bobb on the sidelines.

Pep Guardiola is battling something of an injury crisis in his squad at the moment and urged players to play through the pain barrier at Bournemouth over the weekend. Kyle Walker returned to the side on the south coast but is still lacking rhythm while Nathan Ake was replaced during the second half.

Both are part of the travelling squad for the clash in Portugal while Kevin De Bruyne is also included after the playmaker returned to the squad at Bournemouth. Savinho and Jeremy Doku, two more weekend unused subs, travel but Jack Grealish remains absent with the England international still sidelined.

City have added a clutch of youngsters to swell the numbers with Jacob Wright, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Josh Wilson-Esbrand included, joining Nico O'Reilly and James McAtee who have both been first team regulars this season.

City travelling squad for Sporting: Ederson, Stefan Ortega, Scott Carson, Kyle Walker, Nathan Ake, Josko Gvardiol, Manuel Akanji, Rico Lewis, Josh Wilson-Esbrand, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic, Jacob Wright, Nico O’Reilly, James McAtee, Jeremy Doku, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Savinho, Erling Haaland
