Man dies after shooting in Moss Side with huge police cordon in place - latest updates

A man has died after a shooting in Moss Side.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Claremont Road just after midnight today (Monday). A man - believed to be aged between 18 and 25 - was found with serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital but tragically died a short time later, police said. An investigation has now been launched and a huge police cordon has been put in place at the junction of Claremont Road and Princess Road.

Forensic officers have been spotted at the scene this morning, with officers guarding the cordon. Members of the public are being urged to avoid the area.

Over the weekend, the Manchester Caribbean Carnival was held in area. The main hub of the annual celebration was at Alexandra Park on Saturday and Sunday.

A statement from GMP said:

"At around 00:15am on Monday 15 August 2022, police were called to a serious incident on Claremont Road to reports of a shooting.

"A man, who is believed to between 18-25 years-old was found with serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

"An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing. A scene is in place at Princess Parkway and Claremont Road so the local public and commuters are advised to avoid the area where possible."
