Man dies after being struck by a van outside Co-op store

A 92-year-old man has died after being struck by a van outside a Co-op store in Macclesfield.

The elderly man - a pedestrian - was knocked down outside the shop on Buxton Road at around 9.45am on Monday, March 4. Cheshire Police said officers responded to reports of a collision between him and a white Volkswagen Transporter.

He was rushed to Macclesfield hospital with 'life-threatening injuries'. He has since tragically died.

The van driver was left uninjured, police added. Officers are now urging any witnesses, or anyone with dash cam, CCTV or doorbell footage, to come forward.

Inspector Steve Griffiths, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This collision happened in daylight hours near a very busy road, so it is highly likely it was witnessed. If anyone did witness the incident or the lead up to the collision itself, I ask you to contact us please.

"Likewise, if you have CCTV in the area or dashcam that captured the incident it would really help piece together the events. If you have any information, we urge you to contact us via the website or call 101, quoting IML-1770105."
