An air ambulance was scrambled to the incident, landing in Millenium Park, as police cordoned off neighbouring streets shortly after 4.15pm. Forensics later arrived to conduct investigations as officers in white suits took photos of the scene and an evidence tent was erected.

The victim, who witnesses saw being treated on the ground, was later rushed to hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries. The M.E.N understands he has since died.

Pictures and videos from the scene showed horrified onlookers watching on, as officers flooded the residential streets and taped off roads. An evidence tent was also erected on Crosshill Street with investigations continuing late into the evening.

Moss Side councillor Erinma Bell MBE has told the Manchester Evening News that the attack on the young man is a 'great injustice' as she urged anyone with information to come forward amid police investigations.

"I implore people to come forward with any information they may have with regards to this. That little piece you have seen or heard could bring people to justice," she said.

"This is a great injustice. My sincere condolences go out to the families of the young men involved, it is such sad information. The police are doing everything they can with their investigations, and we are reassuring the local residents that there will be more visible policing out on the streets."
