Man City top charts for Premier League agents fees in year of Erling Haaland transfer

Manchester City spent more than £50million on agents fees in the year between February 2022 and January 2023 - the highest in the Premier League during that time.

In numbers published by the FA on Friday, Pep Guardiola's side spent a total of £51,563,571 on various fees sent to intermediaries of transfers between February 1 2022 and January 31 2023, over £8million more than anyone else in the top-flight.

Chelsea came second with a total of £43,160,072, the result of two windows under Todd Boehly in which they spent more than £550million on new signings. Liverpool came out third, spending just over £33million while Manchester United spent nearly £25million.

The period covers a spell in which City signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, activating his release clause of £54million. A significant portion of the Blues' total is thought to have gone to intermediaries of that transfer of a striker who has already scored 42 goals this season.

Guardiola's side also signed Manuel Akanji from Dortmund in the same window for an initial fee of just £15million. Kalvin Phillips joined from Leeds United for £42million while the Blues also added Sergio Gomez and Maximo Perrone to their ranks in that period.

Fees were also paid by City for departures, both on loan and permanently, including the sales of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal and the loan of Joao Cancelo to Bayern Munich in January.

Fresh contracts for the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Phil foden, and Rico Lewis also all consisted of payments to their respective agents.
