Man City told why they shouldn't make move for Mohamed Salah if he decides to leave Liverpool FC

A former Manchester City defender has explained why he believes his old club should not try to sign Mohamed Salah if the 29-year-old decides to leave Liverpool.

The Egyptian is yet to pen a new contract at Anfield with his current deal coming to an end next year. Salah has been in talks with Liverpool over renewing his deal but is said to be stalling with the Reds not matching his wage demands.

Many have suggested that the attacker is the best player in the world based on current form. He is gunning for his third Premier League Golden Boot and leads the way with 20 goals to his name.

Salah has netted 28 in all competitions this season, recording a plus-20 tally for a fifth consecutive campaign. Despite his goalscoring feats, former defender Danny Mills says that, while he would undoubtedly get into City’s side, his presence would not necessarily be welcomed by Guardiola.

Talking to Football Insider, he said: “He’s not the right age profile for City. They’ve got plenty of talent in those positions already.

“I’m not saying he wouldn’t get into the team but if he does then another quality player will drop out. Where does he fit into that?”

He added: “He’s an outstanding player but is that what City need? Look at [Phil] Foden, [Jack] Grealish, [Riyad] Mahrez, [Bernardo] Silva, [Raheem] Sterling. They’ve got an abundance of attacking options in those wide areas.”
