Man City 'stance' on reaching Josko Gvardiol agreement and more transfer rumours

Manchester City are 'continuing talks' with RB Leipzig over the prospect of signing centre-back Josko Gvardiol.

That is according to a report by 90min, which claims City are 'confident of reaching an agreement' with the German outfit. Gvardiol has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium frequently over the last few months and widespread reports over the last few days have suggested that the Blues are now stepping up their pursuit.

The centre-back is widely considered as one of the most promising in European football and is not short of admirers. The Croatian, who scored against City for Leipzig in a Champions League clash back in February, made a total of 41 appearances at club level during the 2022/23 campaign, scoring three goals. He also scored for Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar back in December.

Gvardiol joined Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb back in 2020 and has since made 87 appearances for the Bundesliga club. Though his primary responsibility is to defend, he has also chipped in with five goals and three assists during that time.

Meanwhile, City captain Ilkay Gundogan is on the cusp of sealing a move to Spanish heavyweights Barcelona. That is also according to a report by 90min, which claims that the out-of-contract midfielder is 'set to be confirmed' as a Barcelona player in the not-too-distant future.

His contract at the Etihad Stadium is up at the end of this month and he was named as one of the released players named on City's retained list issued last week, despite, at that juncture, talks over a new deal still being ongoing.
