Man City stance on Dani Olmo release clause amid RB Leipzig expectation

Manchester City are not expected to pay the release clause for RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo despite a stellar international tournament for the forward.

Olmo has been one of the standout players in an excellent Spain team that are favourites to win the European Championship on Sunday, scoring a classy goal in the semi-final win over France to further enhance his reputation. A £51m release clause, reported to expire later in July, also looks tempting for a top European talent with clubs all over the continent more conscious of financial prudence.

City have been linked with Olmo for at least five seasons, with the forward scoring against them in the Champions League for Dinamo Zagreb in 2019 before being drawn against them with RB Leipzig for the last three years. An upbringing in Barcelona's academy adds to the appeal for Pep Guardiola.

However, the Blues are unlikely to join any race for the player this summer whether his release clause is or isn't triggered. Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku have all been bought in the last two years to add to the existing competition with Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva; City are also expected to complete the signing of Brazilian winger Savio this summer from fellow City Football Group club Troyes.
