Man City set to 'push' for Aston Villa transfer target after Erling Haaland deal

Manchester City are reportedly set to turn their attentions to Aston Villa target Kalvin Phillips following the arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.

Phillips, 26, has been a long-term transfer target for Villa after they originally pursued the player following the clubs promotion to the Premier League in 2019.

Links regarding a move to Villa Park began to resurface as we approached the summer transfer window, with a figure in the region of £60 million quoted to acquire his services after Leeds United avoided relegation on the final day of the season.

However, Pep Guardiola's City side could be set to issue Villa a huge transfer blow as they look set to pursue a deal for the England international, after securing the £51m signing of Erling Haaland earlier today.

According to The Times, City's attentions have now turned to signing a replacement for Fernandinho in midfield. The Brazilian left City at the expiration of his contract after nine years at the club and Phillips has been identified as a replacement. City will reportedly push to secure a deal for the 26-year-old before they travel to America on their pre-season tour in the middle of July.
