Man City agree fee for Kalvin Phillips transfer from Leeds United

Manchester City are closing in on a deal for Kalvin Phillips after reaching an agreement with Leeds United worth around £45million for the midfielder.

City are nearing their second deal of the summer window, after signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund. Argentinian forward Julian Alvarez will also arrive this summer after City agreed to sign him in January.

MEN Sport understands the fee will be £42million plus £3million in add-ons. Personal terms are still to be agreed, but it's expected they will be sorted in quick time and Phillips, the England international, will arrive to bolster Pep Guardiola's midfield.

Academy midfielder Darko Gyabi is set to join Leeds in a separate £5million deal. It looks likely that Phillips will be a direct replacement for the departed former captain Fernandinho in Guardiola's engine room and will compete with Rodri for the holding midfielder role.

Phillips, 26, is an England international of 23 caps and played a starring role in Gareth Southgate's side's run to the Euro 2020 final a year ago. He was of interest to Manchester United this summer, though it's understood the player wasn't interested in switching to one of Leeds' historic rivals. He was born in West Yorkshire and came through the Leeds academy.
