TalkSPORT reporter: £120k-p/w ace would be keen on Man United move after surprise link emerges

Manchester United target Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be interested in a move to Old Trafford this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

The 28-year-old has been linked with a shock switch between Liverpool and the Red Devils after falling down Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order last season.

According to Crook, United are ‘contemplating a surprise raid’ of their North West rivals with Oxlade-Chamberlain said to be ‘desperate’ for a new challenge next term.

The England international, who earns £120,000-per-week, only started nine Premier League games throughout 2021/22, and with his current contract set to expire in 12 months’ time, he could be available in a cut-price deal.

It’s claimed that Klopp’s charges would be willing to accept as little as £10 million for Oxlade-Chamberlain, significantly less than the £35m they splashed out to secure his services from Arsenal back in 2017.

And with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic all set to depart United, the versatile star could be viewed as an ideal candidate to add some strength in depth to Erik ten Hag’s engine room options.

However, the 20-time English champions could face competition from Oxlade-Chamberlain’s boyhood club Southampton for his signature, although there are doubts over whether they can afford his wage demands.

Liverpool and United share arguably the biggest historical rivalry in English football, while a move to Old Trafford would not perhaps guarantee the game time that Oxlade-Chamberlain is looking for.
