Man City season ratings as four players challenge Phil Foden at the top

Another season is done and dusted and Manchester City remain Premier League champions.

An unprecedented fourth success and an upcoming general election means that City could be kicking off next season with the fifth prime minister of their reign over English football – if Labour leader Keir Starmer can summon the strength that City showed to keep Arsenal and Liverpool at bay.

An FA Cup final and a Champions League quarter-final also provided some highlights along the way even if City ultimately fell short in both cup campaigns.

Pep Guardiola has overseen more progress at the Etihad, although there have been some bumps along the way. Here are how the players rated for their efforts across the season.

Ederson: His skills on the ball are so good that they are underrated, although an absence of matchwinning contributions and a bizarrely bad injury record made this season less than vintage. 7

Ortega: Priceless in the Premier League filling in for Ederson, not least with his title-defining stop from Son, but did prove costly in the FA Cup Final. 8

Walker: Played more than anyone expected, received a lot of criticism – some of it fair – as a player and a captain, but ultimately lifted three trophies and was there from start to finish. 7

Lewis: A strange season for Lewis. He was terrific in the Champions League group stages and trusted to play at Arsenal in the league, yet his progress stalled in the New Year. 6
