Man City's Rodri has stunner vs Copenhagen controversially ruled out by VAR
Rodri thought he had scored his first Champions League goal for Manchester City in Copenhagen on Tuesday evening.
During the first half in Denmark, the Spanish midfielder rippled the back of the net with an absolute screamer from distance.
The technique on display from Rodri was something else and had it been allowed to stand, it would’ve been one of the best goals seen in European competition so far this season.
However, the goal was eventually ruled out when those operating the VAR system stepped in and asked the referee to go and check the pitchside monitor.
Why did they do that? Well, because the ball brushed Riyad Mahrez’s arm a few seconds before Rodri took aim from around 25 yards out.
The Algerian winger could’ve done absolutely nothing about it and his hand certainly wasn’t in an unnatural position either.
But after a prolonged look at a replay of the incident, the referee eventually declared that it was an illegal move by Mahrez and disallowed Rodri’s wonder-goal.
It was an absolutely ridiculous call, as you’ll see for yourself in the video below…
A Rodri rocket ruled out by a handball by Mahrez, football is becoming too sanitised, a goal like that shouldn’t be taken away.. pic.twitter.com/j56xUzCspr

What on earth is happening to football?!
Something needs to change with regards to the handball laws – and soon.
