Man City's £96million windfall offers exciting glimpse into future

Four years on from Manchester City's successful FA Youth Cup win in 2020, almost all of that young Blues squad are now household names.

The goalscorers in that 3-2 win against Chelsea at St George's Park are all now Premier League players: James McAtee, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer have 40 top-flight goals and assists between them this term.

City's Youth Cup squad that produced the 2020 win was full of academy talent. There was Premier League 2 top scorer Liam Delap, captain Tommy Doyle while names like Sam Edozie and Oscar Bobb were on the bench. Each squad member has since made their professional debut at Championship level or above and City have raised more than £80m from the group and could top £100m this summer.

With the Class of 2024 in this year's final tonight against Leeds at the Etihad, the success stories from four years ago suggest City could be set for another run of profitable summers thanks to their conveyor belt of academy talent.

Cole Palmer scored in the 2020 final and is the standout name from that side. He went on to make 41 appearances for City over two seasons before asking to leave in the summer. A £42m move to Chelsea followed, as did a remarkable 24 goals and 13 assists for his new club. He is one of the biggest success stories for the academy and has earned an England debut - he could even make the Euro 2024 squad.

Youth Cup final substitute Sam Edozie earned City £10m when he joined Southampton, while goalkeeper James Trafford - who was drafted up to the senior squad that weekend due to injuries so didn't play in the final - raised £14m when
