"He will come" - Pep Guardiola on Vincent Kompany links to Bayern Munich and future Man City role

Pep Guardiola believes that Vincent Kompany would be a successful appointment at Bauern Munich if the German giants decide to appoint the Belgian.

Kompany has emerged as a strong contender to replace Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena, despite failing to keep Burnley in the Premier League this season, with reports suggesting he could be appointed imminently. Guardiola worked with Kompany for three years at City after three years at Bayern, making him well placed to assess the prospective match.

Guardiola insists that Kompany's relegation this season does not affect his qualities as a manager, and insisted Bayern would be making a smart move if they do pick him to take over.

"I'm happy the link has happened for Bayern to Vinny," Guardiola said. "I have a huge opinion about Vinny, doesn't matter the relegation with Burnley. What I felt playing against him and knowing him, I have the highest opinion of his work, personality, his knowledge of the game, how he handles the media.

"I'd love Bayern to take the best decision. I love that club. I'm in love with Bayern Munich for many many reasons. Hopefully take the best decision, if they believe Vinny is the right decision, for Munich they will have a guy to support unconditionally."

Guardiola had previously said he was convinced Kompany will be a future City manager - a theory he maintains despite Kompany's first exposure to the Premier League.

"Yes. For sure. He will come," said Guardiola with a smile.
