Man City player ratings vs Bournemouth as John Stones and Rodri good

Manchester City moved to within a point of Liverpool for the second time in a week with their second 1-0 win in a week.

Jurgen Klopp's side had countered City's 1-0 win over Brentford in midweek but this was another opportunity for the Blues that they managed to take. Phil Foden tapped in in the first half after Erling Haaland's shot had been parried into the middle of the goal, and a second clean sheet of the week earned three points that could prove crucial in the final reckoning.

City did not have it all their own way though and were made to work extremely hard in the second half to keep out a Bournemouth side that grew in confidence. Here is how the City players rated.

Ederson: Ropey in the first half as he came charging out of his box but made some important saves to keep City's lead. 7

Akanji: A good shift at right-back that also involved him popping up in attacking midfield to play Foden in. 7

Stones: His best performance of an injury-hit season, strolling through midfield and into the box with authority. 8

Dias: Almost gifted Solanke a free run on goal in the second half, although there were some important blocks too. 7

Ake: Had a tough time up against the speed of Semenyo on City's left and was fortunate to avoid being culpable for a second-half equaliser. 6

Rodri: His use of the ball was excellent and so too was the use of his body to protect the ball from Bournemouth's advances. 8

Kovacic: A nice chip into the box for the goal and offered something different with his runs through midfield. 7
