Man City ‘open’ to Kalvin Phillips exit and more transfer rumours

Manchester City have apparently refused to rule out an exit for Kalvin Phillips before the transfer window shuts on Friday.

The midfielder has found game time hard to come by and boss Pep Guardiola is said to have been underwhelmed by the pivot’s standards. The player himself wants to stay and fight for his place but the arrival of Mateo Kovacic, and possibly another midfielder, makes his task harder.

The likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool have been linked although speculation has cooled over the past month. However, the exit door is very much still ajar.

That’s according to the Athletic, which says Phillips - who is yet to play this season after making just 21 appearances and four starts last term - is yet to receive an offer from a club he fancies.

It adds that unfavoured teams have indicated their interest, but Phillips has shown no desire for any proposition so far. City are said to be happy to allow the player to leave just over a year after his £42m arrival from Leeds.

Meanwhile, talkSPORT says that Wolves have proposed that midfielder Tommy Doyle in a part exchange deal for Mathues Nunes. The Molineux outfit rejected a £47m bid from the Blues for Nunes this week, manager Gary O’Neil confirmed.

The report says City are already pulling together a second attempt and that Nunes has made it clear that he wishes to move to the Etihad. Wolves are hoping for £60m but could be tempted to recede if Doyle is included in a swap deal to immediately fill a midfield void.
