Man City learn Champions League opponents as UEFA launch new group stage system

Manchester City have discovered who they will play in the new-look Champions League group stage format.

Last season, Real Madrid dethroned Pep Guardiola's side, defeating Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley Stadium. This term, UEFA have implemented a so-called 'Swiss model' to increase the number of competing sides in the Champions League proper from 32 to 36.

Rather than operate a standard group stage, a single league has been formed, guaranteeing at least games for each team. Not every team in the league will lock horns, with UEFA seeding a draw to determine fixtures.

Manchester City will kickstart their European campaign by welcoming Inter Milan to the Etihad Stadium. The 2023 winners will then face Paris Saint-Germain at Les Parc des Princes before playing Club Brugge on home soil.

Guardiola's side then face Juventus in Turin, Feyenoord at the Etihad, Sporting CP in Lisbon, Sparta Prague at home and, finally, SK Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia. As for Arsenal, they have been drawn against PSG (H), Inter Milan (A), Shakhtar Donetsk (H), Atalanta (A), Dinamo Zagreb (H), Sporting CP (A), AS Monaco (H) and Girona (A).

Meanwhile, Aston Villa they must play Bayern Munich (H), RB Leipzig (A), Club Brugge (A), Juventus (H), Young Boys (A), Celtic (H), Bologna (H) and Monaco (A).
