Man City goalkeeper James Trafford sets new target after lifting trophy at Bolton Wanderers

James Trafford has set his sights on becoming England's No.1 after getting his first taste of Wembley success on Sunday.

Manchester City goalkeeper Trafford is enjoying a second tremendous spell on loan at Bolton Wanderers where he kept another clean sheet in the Papa John's Trophy final. A ruthless Trotters destroyed Plymouth Argyle 4-0 at the national stadium, with goals from Kyle Dempsey and Dion Charles in the opening 10 minutes setting the tone.

Trafford was called into action to make one smart save with his feet at 2-0 but it was an otherwise quiet afternoon. Elias Kachunga and Gethin Jones got on the scoresheet in the second half to ensure Bolton won the EFL Trophy for the second time after their triumph in 1989.

The 20-year-old has kept 18 clean sheets in League One this season, more than any other goalkeeper, and will be crucial for Ian Evatt's side as he hopes to guide them back to Wembley for the playoff final. Whether Bolton return in May or not, Trafford is certainly aiming to play at Wembley on plenty more occasions for England.

“My ambition is to be the number one for England one day, which I think I will be,” he told the EFL website. “In the Under-21s, our target is to win the Euros in the summer.

“It’s a dream come true to have made my debut for England at the younger ages. As a kid, you don’t know what club you’re going to be at one day, but you’ll always be English and that’s the only national team you can play for.”

Trafford is also looking to return to City to challenge for a place in Pep Guardiola's squad with Ederson, Stefan Ortega and Scott Carson. He believes his time at Bolton and the final win can only help that. “We set
