Lionel Messi transfer latest: David Beckham suffers Inter Miami setback

PSG forward and Argentina legend Lionel Messi looks increasingly likely to leave the French capital at the end of the season after fans turned on the striker this weekend.

Fan sentiment towards Messi has shifted following their Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich last month. On Sunday, the 35-year-old was whistles by some PSG fans as the Parisians lost 1-0 to Lyon.

According to Sky Sports, there is an increasing sentiment that Messi's time at PSG is coming to an end. The report claims that while the club's owners believe signing the Argentine was a successful decision, both on and off the pitch, they do see it as being risky to re-sign the forward considering the fan backlash.

Should he leave, Messi has been linked with a move to Inter Miami, who are owned by David Beckham and managed by former Manchester United full-back Phil Neville. When asked about signing the legendary forward in the past, Beckham has been open to the idea.

"Well you know what, we've got great opportunities down in Miami," he explained. "We've been contacted by a lot of different players over possibly coming to join the team.

"As with any owner, you really want the best players and if we have the opportunity to bring in players like Cristiano [Ronaldo] or Leo [Messi]... I have such admiration for them as athletes, if we could bring those players in then great."

However, Beckham may be left disappointed as it is reported that Messi is 'much more likely' to remain in Europe than move to Inter Miami or a Saudi Arabia side 'at this stage'. Barcelona are thought to be in the driving seat to sign the Argentine after making it no secret that parting ways back in 2021 was out of their control.
