Man City given injury scare ahead of Man United clash as Guardiola offers update on two players

Ederson is a doubt for Manchester City's Community Shield clash with Manchester United next week after missing the final friendly of the summer vs Chelsea in Ohio.

City recorded their first win of pre-season at the fourth attempt thanks to an Erling Haaland hat-trick and Oscar Bobb finish in Columbus. However, goalkeeper Ederson was an unused substitute and did not warm-up before the game, while defender Rico Lewis looked to jar his knee stopping a cross and was replaced shortly after.

Guardiola has repeated that his main priority for this tour is for his side to return to England without any injuries - and Haaland played the majority of the game after reporting muscular problems earlier in the week - but the two issues picked up in Columbus will be a concern.

Lewis' replacement was put down to cramp, easing concerns, but Ederson's issue may be more of a problem as Guardiola confirmed he has missed training this week.

"Ederson had niggles, we didn't want to take a risk," the boss said. "Yesterday he didn't train. Today is much better. I think next week will be better but I didn't want to take a risk."

Guardiola went on to say that a success of the pre-season tour is the fact that none of his players will return to Manchester injured, perhaps showing confidence in Ederson's condition. The majority of City's international players will return to training on Monday at the City Football Academy, while those who were in the Euro 2024 final - plus Julian Alvarez - will return at a later date.
