Man City give Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake updates vs Burnley

Josko Gvardiol is ready to make his Premier League debut against Burnley.

Manchester City will kick off their title defence against newly promoted Burnley on Friday night at Turf Moor and Pep Guardiola will have a fully fit squad to choose from.

New signing Gvardiol didn't arrive in time last week to make his debut in the Community Shield against Arsenal. However, Guardiola says the Croatian centre-back has settled in well in Manchester and is ready to go on Friday.

"Yeah's he's ready," said Guardiola, who also said Gvardiol has settled in 'perfectly'.

City have been given a further boost in defence as Nathan Ake has been training well and is ready for action. The Dutchman missed the trip to Wembley due to injury but is good to return to action. "He's training good," Guardiola added. "He's ready too."

Friday's game will see City once again reunite with club legend Vincent Kompany as he takes charge of his Burnley side in the Premier League for the first time. Guardiola has been left impressed by the job his former captain has done at Turf Moor and is wary of the threat they pose.

"Normally the first games are difficult, especially against newly promoted teams," Guardiola said. "They have energy and want to start well. Vinny [Vincent Kompany] knows us well. He did an incredible job and destroyed the Championship. To win, win, win is so difficult in the competition. He is going to do really, really well [in the Premier League]. It is going to be a difficult game."
