Man City get Jack Grealish injury update

Jack Grealish has withdrawn from England duty over the next two weeks due to the thigh injury that kept him out of Manchester City's win over Fulham.

Grealish was a surprise omission from the City matchday squad that would beat Fulham 5-1 at the Etihad, but it transpired he had picked up a thigh injury in the build-up to the match. While it wasn't expected to keep Grealish out for long, assistant manager Juanma Lillo said he couldn't confirm whether Grealish would be able to report for international duty with England this week.

"It’s going to be difficult for Jack to make it, but I’m not a doctor and it will be difficult for me to explain," Lillo said after the game.

Now, Grealish has reported to St George's Park for the beginning of England's first camp of the season, but after an assessment from the national team's medical staff he has withdrawn from the squad.

An England statement read: "Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been ruled out of England’s September fixtures.

"The pair reported to St. George’s Park on Monday but have since withdrawn from the Three Lions squad following checks on injuries sustained prior to camp.

"There are no further call-ups expected as Gareth Southgate’s squad prepare for Saturday’s UEFA EURO 2024 qualifier against Ukraine in Wroclaw and Tuesday’s 150th Anniversary Heritage Match with Scotland in Glasgow."

City will hope that the measure is precautionary and that he will get time to rest and recover before they resume Premier League action against West Ham on September 16. Their Champions League campaign begins on September 19 at home to Red Star Belgrade.
