Man City fly out for pre-season tour without Mahrez as Mendy signs for new club

Here are your Wednesday evening's Manchester City headlines.

Manchester City will take a 25-man squad to Japan and South Korea, with Riyad Mahrez left out of the travelling group to complete a transfer out of the club.

City returned to training on Monday in Manchester, but there has been an unusual lack of any insight from the club in terms of who reported back for pre-season. So the confirmation of the tour squad on Wednesday was the first hint to how the Blues will manage a number of their stars who are linked with moves away.

Mahrez is the only senior player not to travel, with a move to Al-Ahli edging closer to completion. City agreed that the Algerian did not have to travel after they received an acceptable offer of up to £30m.

Benjamin Mendy has resumed his football career, a week on from being found not guilty of the remaining charges against him.

Mendy was unanimously acquitted and left court on Friday as a free man after being found not guilty of one charge of rape and one of attempted rape, having also been found not guilty of six counts of rape and one of sexual assault in January.

Under contract by Manchester City at the time of those charges being brought, Mendy was suspended, and was released at the end of the 2022/23 season when his contract expired.
