Man City boss Pep Guardiola gives injury update on John Stones and makes Cole Palmer transfer admission

Manchester City will not have John Stones available for Sunday’s clash with Chelsea and his muscular injury will be reassessed after the international break.

The defender missed a chunk of the start of the season due to injury although it is thought this setback is not as serious. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola will come up against former City players this weekend, with both Cole Palmer and Raheem Sterling set to feature.

Palmer left the Etihad on deadline day after Guardiola was unable to guarantee him ample game time. That said, he has spoken very positively about his former winger, who has settled in well at Stamford Bridge.

John Stones' injury is not as bad as first feared, but he will miss Manchester City's Premier League trip to Chelsea this weekend.

Stones was replaced at half-time of City's win over Young Boys this week, picking up a recurrence of the muscle injury that kept him out of the first ten games of the season. On Tuesday, Guardiola said City were 'in trouble' and he would be out for 'a while'.

The centre-back was left out of the England squad this week for the upcoming internationals, but after consulting doctors, Guardiola confirmed on Friday that the initial diagnosis is not as bad as he first thought.
