Man charged with causing death of 15-year-old girl after van crash

A man from north Manchester has been charged with causing the death of a 15-year-old girl by dangerous driving.

Emergency services were called just after 7pm on July 7 to an incident on the A56 slip road which leads on to the A679 Burnley Road in Lancashire.

A passenger in a vehicle, Bonny Rae Barrow, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Manchester Children's Hospital. She was later transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital where she sadly died, Lancs Live reports.

Cameron Hughes, 23, of Haddington Drive, Blackley, has now been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court last Saturday (July 15) and has been remanded to appear before Preston Crown Court on August 14. Police say they are still appealing for information.

A spokesperson for the force said: "The 15-year-old female passenger, Bonny Rae Barrow, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital and later transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital where she very sadly died. Our thoughts remain with her family who are being supported by specially trained officers.

"Cameron Hughes, 23, of Haddington Drive, Manchester, is charged with causing death by dangerous driving. He appeared before Preston Magistrates’ Court last Saturday (July 15) and has been remanded to appear before Preston Crown Court on August 14.

"Whilst a man has been charged, this is still an ongoing investigation and anyone with information about the collision should contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting log 1253 of July 7 or email SCIU@lancashire.police.uk."
