Officers said a 30-year-old man who was arrested has been bailed pending further investigations. Earlier this week the Manchester Evening News told how a number of police vehicles blocked the main road following the incident, as an air ambulance was seen landing nearby. Roads surrounding the market in the town were also closed.
Wigan MP Lisa Nandy issued a statement and said she had been in contact with Greater Manchester Police. She said: "Keeping our town centre safe is a top priority for all of us. I will be having further discussions about this with the police and Wigan Council over the coming days."
