Man arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in woodland

A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault after a woman was attacked in a Stockport woodland at the weekend. The 31-year-old remains in custody for questioning.

A previous appeal said the attack happened at around 6.40pm on Saturday (June 11) on a footpath between Brook Road and Mill Lane in Cheadle. A woman was walking alone along the wooded footpath towards the back of the Alexandra Hospital when the alleged attack happened.

She was left 'extremely shaken up' after the assault, police previously said. A 31-year-old man has now been arrested.

A GMP Stockport spokesman said: "A 31-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in Stockport in relation to an incident in Cheadle on Saturday 11 June 2022 and he remains in police custody for questioning."
