Man appears in court accused of churchyard knife attack which left victim needing 20 stitches to his face

A man has appeared in court accused of slashing a man across the face with a knife in a Salford churchyard. Police say the victim, 31, needed 20 stitches following the alleged attack in the grounds of St Mary's Church in Eccles town centre.

Anthony Leather, 46, of Southway, Eccles, appeared at Manchester magistrates' court on Monday charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a knife. The case was adjourned until July 18 at Manchester Crown Court.

Leather was remanded in custody. The alleged attack took place at 5.45pm on Monday, June 6.
