Manchester United could sign ideal Luke Shaw rotation option for just £3m this summer

Manchester United need signings in almost every position on the pitch this summer. Erik ten Hag's priority has been Frenkie de Jong and it is likely that his transfer will take up a large chunk of the club's budget, so they will need to be smarter about how they approach other positions.

The Manchester Evening News understands that after De Jong the club want to sign a centre-back, a forward and another midfielder, while a goalkeeper and a full-back have also been mentioned. The Daily Mail have stated that after United sign the Dutch midfielder they will look to target Feyenoord's Tyrell Malacia.

Malacia is just 22 and is seen as an up-and-coming talent in the Netherlands, but he would likely cost around €15m (£12.9m) and Lyon are also working hard to complete a deal for the left-back. So who else could United target?

Many fans have made jokes throughout this transfer window about how Ten Hag is only targetting players who currently play for or have previously played for Ajax, but that might not be such a bad thing on this occasion, as there is a cheap and reliable option within Ajax's ranks who could provide competition for Luke Shaw. And that player is Nicolas Tagliafico.

Tagliafico is reportedly available for just €4m (£3.4m) this summer and though he only saw limited game time last season thanks to Daley Blind, he is still a technically capable full-back who can offer a lot in both attack and defence. Ten Hag valued Blind's progressive passing highly and given he could not break up the defensive partnership of Lisandro Martinez and Jurrien Timber, the 29-year-old was an unfortunate casualty.
