A man and a woman have died after a horror car crash involving a lorry on Saturday evening (February 15). Emergency services were called to the collision involving a Ford Kuga and HGV, at around 6.30pm on the A500 near Crewe.

The driver of the Ford, a 76-year-old man, and the passenger, a 63-year-old woman, were both pronounced dead at the scene. They were from the Stoke-on-Trent area, Cheshire Police said.

The main south Cheshire road was closed off in both directions on Saturday evening between Junction 16 with the M6 to the Meremoor Moss roundabout at Weston.

Fire crews as well as police and paramedics were called to the scene. Investigations into the fatal collision are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews left the scene shortly before 9.50pm. A statement read: "Sadly it has been confirmed that the driver and passenger of the car died at the scene, despite the very best efforts of ambulance and fire crews to resuscitate them.

"Road closures will remain in place on the A500 between the M6 J16 and Meremoor Moss Roundabout at Weston for some time. Please avoid the area if you can."
