Man, 37, fighting for life after car flips onto its roof on M60 motorway following collision amid major delays

A man was fighting for his life in hospital today after a car he was driving collided with another vehicle on the M60 and flipped over onto its roof.

Police said the man, who is 37, was in a 'critical' condition at Salford Royal Hospital after the early-hours smash.

He was cut free from the wreckage of the car after the incident at 5.41am on Saturday between junctions 25 and 24 of the anti-clockwise M60 near Stockport. Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

National Highways, meanwhile, said the car also struck a nearside motorway barrier during the incident. A seven-mile stretch of the M60 to Denton remains closed.

In a statement, GMP said: "Police are appealing for information following a road traffic collision this morning (Saturday 30 December).

"A car collided with another vehicle on the M60 motorway at around 5.41am, which resulted in the vehicle overturning. The driver of the overturned vehicle is in a critical condition and has been taken to Salford Royal Hospital for treatment. Junction 24 to 25 anticlockwise remains closed and drivers are urged to avoid this area.

"Police are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward and help their enquiries.
