Malky Mackay 'wanted it known' Ross County SACKED him as Roy MacGregor reveals firm 'mutual agreement' snub

Ross County chairman Roy MacGregor has revealed Malky Mackay preferred to be SACKED over a mutual agreement exit.

The former Cardiff City and Watford boss was sacked by the Premiership strugglers on Wednesday after a torrid run of form that leaves the Staggies in relegation danger again. While only in November, County have been unable to make a bright start to the season after staging a dramatic comeback to beat Partick Thistle in the top flight play-off final last term.

While clubs don't traditionally state that their gaffers have been sacked, MacGregor admits Mackay wanted it known he had got the chop. And the County supremo says that's credit to the 51-year-old. He told Ross-shire Journal: “Malky was sacked. We asked if he wanted it phrased ‘by mutual agreement’, but he wanted it known, fair and square, that he would have liked to have stayed for the remaining six months of his contract. He particularly didn’t want a joint statement, but for it to be known he was asked to leave. That’s respect for the man. I don’t think you will hear anything bad about the club from him.

“The club gave him an opportunity after his challenges in England. He respects the people in the club and we are all disappointed it hasn’t worked out for him and the club.”

County have won one of their last 10 league games. A new boss is being targeted for when they come back from the international break against Kilmarnock on November 25th, and a type like iconic Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is being eyed.
