Motherwell confidence has taken hit amid 11-game winless streak, admits Conor Wilkinson ahead of Ross County clash

Striker Conor Wilkinson admits Motherwell’s confidence has taken a dent amid their 11-game winless streak, but hopes they can finally end their rotten run with two bites at the cherry this week.

For the second week running, the Steelmen required an injury-time equaliser to avoid defeat as Wilkinson netted in the seventh minute of stoppage time to help the 10-man hosts take a point off Dundee on Saturday.

Motherwell had taken the lead through Mika Biereth inside six minutes, before Lyall Cameron struck on the half hour mark and then Owen Beck scored four minutes later to turn the game on its head.

Bevis Mugabi popped up to make it 2-2 in 68 minutes, only for Motherwell’s task to become more difficult when Harry Paton saw red four minutes later.

Zach Robinson looked to have won it for Dundee with his 88th minute strike, but Wilkinson had the final say at the death.

It is another Premiership point on the board, but you have to go back to September 3 for the last victory, which was a 1-0 win over Hearts at Tynecastle.

Wilkinson admits that the nerves set in after taking the lead and that is something they have to rectify if they are to end their streak, either tonight away to Ross County or at home to St Johnstone on Saturday.

He said: “The way we sat off after going ahead is maybe a confidence thing.

“We haven’t won for a while so no one wants to make a mistake, whereas if we’d win 11 in a row we wouldn’t feel that pressure.

“At 1-0 up here we didn’t shut up shop, we let them come at us and it cost us. We can only watch it back and learn from it.

“We get frustrated, the people who pay good money to come and see us get frustrated. So what you really want is for us to be able to play as if no one’s there, just to go forward
