Malik Tillman Rangers transfer details revealed as Bayern Munich hedge their bets with future clause

Malik Tillman is edging closer to his Rangers loan move and Bayern Munich are willing to let the rising American leave on a permanent deal next summer.

Gio van Bronckhorst is set to continue his Bundesliga shopping spree after landing Welsh speedster Rabbi Matondo from Schalke this week. Tillman is on the fringes of Bayern ’s first team and is keen to play more regularly elsewhere. However, the Bavarian giants believe he could still develop into a regular for them in the future, and Kicker reports a loan to Ibrox with an option to buy will include a buy-back clause should he impress to the extent that they want him back if he joins Rangers permanently.

Tillman is reportedly undergoing a medical with the Gers today before becoming the fifth new addition to van Bronckhorst’s squad this summer. As well as Matondo, John Souttar, Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence have made the move to Glasgow. The player trained with Bayern on Wednesday morning, but didn’t appear for the afternoon session. He did some individual work at the club’s academy to ensure he didn't pick up a niggle ahead of completing his transfer.

The 20-year-old was born in Nuremberg, but has been called up for the USA men's national team, who he qualifies for through his father. Tillman has been capped twice by the United States despite being eligible for Germany as well.

He only made his Bundesliga debut last December in a 5-0 win over Stuttgart. Tillman was then called upon when several of Bayern’s first team regulars were struck down by Covid, but hasn’t featured much since, hence his eagerness to move on.
