Major road closed in both directions after 'serious' crash involving pedestrian - latest updates

A major road in south Manchester has been closed in both directions this evening following a crash.

The A34 Kingsway in East Didsbury is currently shut both ways due to an accident between Gawsworth Avenue to School Lane.

According to the traffic site, INRIX, the road has been closed since around 5.20pm this evening (Wednesday 29 November).

Pictures from the scene shows heavy traffic in the area, with a number of police vehicles reported to have responded to the ongoing incident.

An eye witness said: "The A34 is closed northbound at Parr's Wood/East Didsbury Tesco's junction. Huge police presence. Traffic is gridlocked."

Greater Manchester Police have been approached for comment.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit remain at the scene on the northbound carriageway this evening.

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at around 5pm. A cordon was erected on the busy main road, with investigations ongoing into the 'serious' collision.

The latest update from the AA reads: "Road closed and queueing traffic due to crash on A34 Kingsway into town from Gawsworth Avenue to School Lane.

"The southbound carriageway was closed but has since reopened although delays remain."

A large closure remains in place on Kingsway this evening as investigations continue at the scene of the 'serious' collision.

A witness from the scene said a pedestrian was hit by a car and that they were 'rushed' to hospital from the scene.
