Police have shut a major road in both directions. The A40 is affected between Raglan and Monmouth.
Officers from Gwent Police have warned that diversions are in place, which may cause heavy traffic. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternative route. The reason for the closure is unknown at present.
A spokesman for the force said: "The A40 is currently closed between Raglan and Monmouth. Diversions are in place which may cause congestion. Please avoid the area if possible and find alternative routes for your journey. Thank you."
