Main road cordoned off by police after reports of person knocked down in 'serious accident'

A main road is closed by police this evening due to a 'serious accident'. The A560 (Brinksway) in Stockport is currently cordoned off near to the Merseyway shopping centre with a heavy emergency services presence on the scene amid reports of a person being knocked down.

The road is closed off currently between Alder Grove to Wood Street. Paramedics and police are at the scene. There is currently a car within the cordon and debris in the road.

It is understood the collision was reported at around 6.30pm and the road has been closed, causing traffic throughout Stockport for around two hours.

The full nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for further information on the incident.

A local business posted on Facebook this evening: "There’s been a serious road incident on Brinksway so the road is closed off in all directions. There is a lot of traffic."
