Maik Nawrocki will bring Celtic noise as recruit revealed Artur Boruc brought the Legia quiet man out of his shell

Mild mannered Maik Nawrocki admits it was none other than Artur Boruc who brought him out of his shell.

Celtic’s new defensive recruit from Legia Warsaw shared a dressing room with the Holy Goalie at the Polish cracks as he grew from boy to man. The 22-year-old Bremen-born centre-back has always preferred to do his talking on the pitch but he revealed time spent alongside the larger than life former Hoops keeper was an eye opening experience.

He said: “I was a quiet person off the pitch but on the pitch I wanted to show everything and not speak off it. I came to Legia Warsaw, I was alone so I grew as a man too. Legia was the perfect step to prepare me for a club like this. Artur was a legend in Poland and here at Celtic and I had the chance to play one year with him.

"He wasn’t only a good footballer but an amazing character. I was very happy and sometimes he’d tell stories about himself. It’s nice to make the same way he did.

"He was a different character. He spoke a lot about Celtic but he was 20 years older than me so we didn’t speak a lot but we always had a good relationship on the pitch.”

Nawrocki has been recruited for an undisclosed fee but has been on the radar of Brendan Rodgers since playing for a Legia side which beat Leicester City 1-0 back in September 2021. The chance to learn under the Irishman was too good an offer to turn down for the former Polish under-21 international and he’s relishing a reunion with a manager

He said: “We played against Leicester and won so I think he remembered me. We will maybe speak about this.

“I think for Legia it was one of the biggest games in their history, we won 1-0 at the full stadium. It was the loudest I’ve ever been in. We remember that night very well.
