Maik Nawrocki attracts Celtic transfer 'interest' from Brendan Rodgers but race is on for Polish international
Celtic are reportedly keen on Legia Warsaw defender Maik Nawrocki as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his back-line.
The towering centre-half is only 22 but could be the next name on the Irishman's summer transfer list. It's a well that his predecessor Ange Postecoglou went to when he recruited Josip Juranovic from the Polish side in 2021. Celtic would increase their £3.5m fee for the World Cup star considerably when he moved to Union Berlin in January, scooping a package worth around £10million but it appears the Scottish champions could face competition for the youth international.
According to reports in his homeland, Celtic have 'entered the race' for the defender's signature as Rodgers has just four recognised central defenders within his ranks at Lennoxtown. The report suggests that Galatasaray are also keen on Nawrocki, as reporter Paweł Gołaszewski reckons the youngster could make his way out of Warsaw before the transfer window slams shut.
Rodgers side shipped six goals to Yokohama Marinos in their first friendly as part of a Japanese tour, and despite being a pre-season clash, the 50-year-old coach may now look to strengthen his backline. The Irishman has Odin Thiago Holm and Marco Tilio in the door and working away, while South Koreans Yang Hyun-Jun and Kwon Hyeok-kyu look set to join from the Far East.
