Maidstone United midfielder John Gilbert wins National League South player-of-the-month award
Maidstone United midfielder John Gilbert has been named National League South player-of-the-month.
Gilbert took the October award after scoring four goals and providing an assist as United won four and drew one of their five league games.
His haul comprised doubles against Farnborough and his former club Slough, while setting up Jephte Tanga against Eastbourne.
Maidstone’s form saw George Elokobi nominated for the manager-of-the-month award but he was pipped by Horsham boss Dominic Di Paola.
The Stones started November with a 2-1 home defeat by local rivals Tonbridge on Saturday.
They’re in Kent derby action again tonight when they visit Ebbsfleet in an all-ticket fixture.
Elokobi’s men are ninth, four points clear of 12th-placed Fleet, having played two more games.
Ebbsfleet, whose starting XI could include ex-Maidstone man Charlie Seaman, lost 3-1 at Football League club Grimsby in the FA Cup first round at the weekend.
“It’s going to be tough and we’ve got to be ready,” said Elokobi.
“We’ve got to roll our sleeves up and make sure we try and help the players out.
“And the ones that haven’t been playing, this is the moment I’ve been telling them.
“The squad will be utilised the best way I can and we’ll see who is available on Tuesday and ready for a tough test away from home.”
